Ruihaonan Wang /rweɪhaʊnæn wæŋ/
b. 2000 Ürümqi, China / based in New York City

Ruihaonan creates models for concepts in the form of garment. Acknowledging the inevitable divergence between the idea and its meaning-embedded representation, he follows the conceptual art form principle (LeWitt, 1967) where he prioritizes decisions and ideas and, afterwards, leaves the execution ‘perfunctory,’ yet in a sense that a couture-standard craftsmanship is never sacrificed. He is practicing re-sensitizing through clothes; in the making of such quotidian product, he magnifies the subject-object shift and conceptualizes the nonexistent object - fashion - in his own understanding. He engages with Plato’s Timaeus and Meinong’s ontology in assisting with his concept development.

He drafts all the (garment) patterns from scratch on a critical level and executes in a meticulous manner.

Résumé >

He can be petty at times, but he holds people in philosophy in high regard.
